This Poinsettia was made for the top of a Christmas cake where the customer wanted only a Poinsettia. The finished flower was then edged with ‘sparkle’ to enhance the edges. I added the green ribbon base to ‘lift’ it from the cake.

My daughter asked me to assist her in making some sweets as presents for family this year, as money was tight (being a student). We spent the morning making peppermint cremes (not shown), cherry cremes, coconut cremes, and marzipan fruits. After the photographs were taken, the sweets were placed in doily lined boxes ready for giving to the various family members. We had a great time making them, and from the feedback of empty boxes ready for refills, we think that they were a great success!

These orchids were made as a present for a friend who loves orchids. They were completely hand made and tinted a delicate pink before placing them in a pre bought black vase, ready for display. Flowers like these take a lot of patience to construct, but I think the results are well worth the effort. I understand the recipient of the present thinks they look very true to life. The photograph shows the completed flowers, wrapped and ready for presentation.

This spray was made for my Diploma using Christmas flowers. These included a Poinsettia, holly, Christmas rose, mistletoe and mimosa buds. When put together they made quite a large spray, but I think very effective, when the tartan bow was added.

This plaque was made for the top of a wedding cake for a couple who are Jehovah’s Witnesses. As they requested a decoration relevant to their beliefs, I made this open book as a symbol of their special book 'The Bible'. I decorated it with rosebuds in the colour of the brides’ bouquet. Obviously this could be adapted to any size/shape plaque with any colour rosebuds

These were wooden spoons, which I designed with flowers to match the bridal bouquets. These can be given to the bride as a special present as a keepsake, and can be personalised to the same as the flowers on their cake. Ribbons can also be added so that the bride can carry it, as in the case of traditional horseshoes. It may also be possible to add the names of the couple and their marriage date, although it was not requested in these samples.

I made this flower spray from a rose bud, a slightly open rose and a small ‘full blown’ rose. These were all coloured pink, and added to some small blossoms and pink/silver ribbons. Silver leaves were added to keep the pink / silver theme. I had to keep it small as it was to fit on a 6” round cake. This spray could be made in any colour roses or blossom.

This cake topper was made from an idea I saw in a book. I loved the simplicity of the figure of the teddy just lying on the cloud. This topper would be ideal for either a boy or girl for a celebration like a 1st birthday or Christening.

This flower spray was made for a birthday cake for a lady and was placed on pale lilac icing on the sponge cake. The flowers were all hand made by Diane, comprising of a yellow rose bud, a full blown rose and 2 smaller roses. These were complimented by dark purple jasmine type flowers together with rose and ivy leaves. The ribbon matched the ribbon on the cake.

This flower spray was made for the corner of a 12" square engagement cake. It comprised of a mirror image design with yellow roses in various stages of opening with a large, full blown rose at the centre. As the theme for the cake was gold / dark purple, I made gold rather than green leaves and purple jasmine type flowers and ribbons were added to the design.

This handmade spray of roses and diamond clusters was made for the top of a Diamond Wedding Anniversary cake for the parents of a client. Details of the cake can be found in the Wedding/Anniversary section.
-
This design was chosen to compliment the top tier of a 2 tier pillared wedding cake. The flowers were coloured to match the ribbons around the cake, but can be made in any colour to match a bride’s colour scheme. Any flowers can be added to this design.

This spray was designed to be placed on the top of a 70th birthday cake. Originally, the client requested deep purple flowers, but they settled for purple/white roses with advice from me. Deep purple ribbons were added to compliment the deep purple ribbons around the cake.

This 10" spray was made for the top of a single tier Wedding cake, so I wanted a special effect. The client requested cream coloured arum lilies together with deep purple roses to match the ribbon she sent to me. All of the flowers were handmade and the small jasmine type flowers were added after being coloured cream / purple. Cream and purple ribbons and cream coloured gypsophelia completed this spray. Please see the wedding section for this spray on the final cake.

This little chap was requested by a young girl who was going to Switzerland for Christmas and wanted to take her cake that she had baked. The decorations at this Christmas venue were to be cream and gold with a theme of reindeer. After a few trial runs, I produced this little chap who I nicknamed ‘tubby’ due to his fat tummy from eating the carrots from his plate. The girl was thrilled with him and at the time of writing I have not heard whether he was a hit in Switzerland!

In this spray, I used handmade ‘branches’ of holly leaves and berries. I then added some mimosa buds and a Christmas Rose for the centre. A gold ribbon completed this spray.

These sprays were handmade as ‘toppers’ for clients own Christmas Cakes. They were made with holly and ivy leaves & berries but I also added a Christmas Rose and a small spray of silver or gold decorations and the appropriate coloured ribbons completed the spray.

This small spray of roses and jasmine type flowers was handmade for a 6” birthday cake. It was finished off using a piece of artificial fern and a small bead decoration. Obviously, this spray could be made using any colour combination of flowers.
-
This special spray was handmade for a specific birthday cake for a girl who loves these flowers. I made it in pink per the clients’ request, but it could obviously be made in any colour.
-
These sprays were handmade for Christmas Cakes made by clients who did not know what decorations to put on their newly baked cake. I made them unique by using different coloured ribbons. These sprays consisted of only holly & ivy leaves and berries.

These 3 sprays were made for a client who was having her 3 tiers of cake made elsewhere, but wanted Diane to make bespoke sprays of flowers for the tops. The sprays were made to fit 9”, 11” and 13” cakes, and incorporated some of the flowers from the florists’ lists for the wedding flowers. These included white roses, lisianthus, Singapore orchids and hyacinth pips. There were also a few butterflies added within the design per a request from the bride. Once the cakes are decorated they are to be placed on the E shaped stand hired from Supercakes.
