Christening Cakes

This cake was made to a customer’s specific instruction. They requested that the cake must have ‘silver balls’ as the babies mother had remembered them on her cakes as a child. The baby’s crib was made on a separate plaque and could be removed to ease the cutting of the cake. The flowers were made from 4 heart shapes to continue the ‘heart’ theme around the edges. Again, this could easily be made in blue for a boy.

This was a ‘dummy’ cake, which I designed to show the plaque with baby’s booties. This example was obviously for a boy, but can easily be made in pink for a girl. The plaque is only slightly attached to the cake and can be removed for the cake cutting, and used as a keepsake if stored correctly.

This cake was made to demonstrate ‘embroidery anglaise’ effect, which can be beautiful around this type of cake. The plaque containing the rocking horse was coloured the same as the surround of the cake and inserted into the top to ensure uniformity of the design. I used a rocking horse for this piece, but indeed, any model could be applied. This design could also be used as a birthday cake for a small child. Space has been left for any wording required.

This cake was made for a little girl on her special day. As her name is Cerys Ruby, the decorations were kept to pink/ruby colours, with a small bouquet of ruby rosebuds and feathers on a plaque which could be removed and kept to remember this special day. The cake was lemon sponge which I find very popular for this type of occasion.

This lovely Christening cake for twin boys was based on a 9” square lemon flavoured sponge. Their Mum was asked for the cake, wanted a little boy theme (they are not babies), so the train seemed suitable, and with hearts on the sides, the cake was complete.

This was a really traditional christening cake, where I was supplied with the original top tier from the Mum & Dad’s Wedding cake (a 6” fruit cake), and given specific decoration details. Their wedding cake had been decorated with a tumbling cascade of marshmallows, and Mum wanted to continue this theme for her little girls’ special day. The cake was re-covered in marzipan & iced with a delicate pink icing. The marshmallows were then added from tiny ones on the top to larger ones at the bottom. Sapphire Rose and the butterflies completed the cake.

This 7” vanilla sponge cake was made especially for a little girl on the occasion of her naming ceremony. The client asked for ‘pink & pretty’ but left the design up to me. I used pale pink icing to cover the cake. I made and coloured the butterflies and added the large one to a plaque in the centre. Small blossom flowers with pink centres were added around the base. The cake was completed with a dark pink ribbon around the board.
