Christmas Cakes

This cake was made for a specific order for a customer who wanted a very plain cake. She had tasted my fruitcake and requested a Christmas Cake with only a Poinsettia for decoration. The fruitcake was covered in marzipan and white fondant icing. I made the Poinsettia and added a bow underneath to make it stand out. I decided to add ‘imprinted’ snowflakes to the corners of the cake, which I sprinkled with ‘magic sparkles’ to define them. I then added the ribbon round the cake to match the one under the flower. Apparently the customer was ‘over the moon’ with this cake.

My parents ordered this cake for Christmas. A fruitcake covered in marzipan and white fondant icing which was then decorated with green wording. The trees were ‘imprinted’ onto the icing and painted using food colours. I also added snowflakes covered in ‘sparkle’. The cake was decorated in green and white per the order and the wording was also correct to the order.

This was made for a regular client for a local Home. The residents vary in age, and I always try to make their cake special to them. This year I decided on a ‘magical’ theme with snowflakes and snowmen covered in ‘sparkles’ to bring them to life. The cake was a fruitcake, covered in marzipan and white fondant icing, as they like to only have small pieces and make it last longer! The snowflakes were also repeated round the edges of the cake. I understand that this was a ‘hit’ with all that tried it!

This was a quick cake from my fruit cake stock, which was covered in marzipan and fondant icing and a spray of Christmas holly (also from my stock), added. The green Christmas ribbon showing ‘Merry Christmas was placed around the cake and then added to the top to make the message. This cake took me only a short time to decorate, but the client was still pleased with the results.

This was based on a mature fruit cake covered in marzipan and iced using white fondant icing. The cake was divided into 6 sections and decorations of trees and robins were ‘imprinted’ onto the icing and then ‘painted’ to give the effect. No wording was added, as it was not required.

This was a rich fruit cake, covered in marzipan & icing and then imprinted with 3 Christmas designs of a star, a snowflake and a 3 leafed holly. Each design was coloured, glittered in the appropriate colour and the same designs added to the sides.

This rich fruit cake was covered in marzipan and icing. I made a bow with the tartan ribbon and added it to the centre of the cake. I then added 4 pieces of already made holly leaves and berries (to continue the green/red theme), and finally added the same tartan ribbon around the cake.

This rich fruit cake was covered in marzipan and icing before decorating began. The decoration on this cake consisted of imprints of various sizes of snowflakes being made on both the top and sides of the cake. These imprints were then coloured with a mixture of blue and glitter to make the desired effect. A shiny white ribbon was added to the lower edge of the cake.

This rich fruit cake was covered in marzipan & icing before decoration began. On this occasion I also covered the board. Each separate piece of the holly, icing, pudding and place were cut out separately, and coloured before placing onto the cake in the correct position. I then added glitter to the ‘icing’ to give a sparkling effect. As I had coloured the ‘plate’ in gold, I decided to add a gold/white abstract decorated ribbon around the edge of the cake.

This cake was based on a rich fruit cake with marzipan & icing. It was then imprinted with a tree design and coloured and ‘glittered’ to the finished effect. A wide green Christmas ribbon was added to finish the cake.

This rich fruit cake was ordered by a neighbour for a special Christmas present. The cake was first covered in marzipan and icing. I then added my handmade Christmas rose in the centre of the cake. Four small sprigs of my handmade holly complete with berries were then added to the 4 corners. I then sprinkled a little glitter over the Christmas rose, and the design was finished with a tartan ribbon.

These three rich fruit cakes were firstly covered in marzipan & icing. One cake was decorated with a gold coloured snowflake, and the other 2 cakes had different sizes of handmade holly and berry decorations added. Each cake was then finished with an appropriate coloured ribbon. These cakes were sold complete within a cellophane wrapper and bow as they could then be given as a present to a relative or friend or added to a gift hamper.

These 3 rich fruit cakes were covered in marzipan and icing ready for decoration. In these examples, a Christmas tree, a Christmas pudding and a snowflake imprint was used. These were coloured in the most appropriate way and ribbons added to the sides of the cakes. These cakes were sold complete within a cellophane wrapper and bow as they could then be given as a present to a relative or friend or added to a gift hamper.

This rich fruit cake was firstly covered in marzipan and icing prior to decoration. I had already made small and large 3-leafed holly decorations complete with berries. For this cake I placed a large version of the leaves in the centre, and 4 small versions on the 4 corners. I then added a ribbon which carried the theme of holly leaves to complete the design.

This rich fruit cake was firstly covered in marzipan and icing. I then imprinted 4 snowman designs onto the cake. Each figure was then coloured using a white colour which contains a shiny ingredient. Each snowman was then given a different coloured hat and scarf. Snowflakes were imprinted and coloured at intervals around the sides of the cake and a gold star chain was added to the base of the cake, to finish the design.

This 5" round rich fruit cake was firstly covered in marzipan and icing. A gold tree figure was then cut out, coloured gold and covered in gold glitter. It was then carefully placed on the top, and a complimentary ribbon added to the sides. Finally a length of handmade icing ‘pearl string’ was coloured and added to the base of the cake

This 3" square rich fruit cake was initially covered with marzipan and icing. A Christmas tree was imprinted into the soft icing and then left to harden. Later the tree was coloured and covered with silver glitter. Silver balls were then added, together with the silver pot. A green and silver greetings ribbon around the base of the cake completed the design.

This 4" square rich fruit cake was firstly covered in marzipan and icing. Whilst the icing was still soft, a small snowflake design was added all over to represent the design on wrapping paper. Also lines were added to show where the paper was ‘folded’ in the wrapping process. Green ‘ribbon’ strips of icing were then added, and finally a ‘ribbon’ bow was added to complete the design.

This 6" rich fruit cake was designed for a special order for a Housing Association home. The Warden of the home has been coming to me for many years for a special cake for his residents. This year I decided to get them all singing. The 6" square rich fruit cake was covered in marzipan and icing, and then decorated using the 1st line of a well known Christmas song. I added the musical notes to get them all singing!

These two 2" square rich fruit cakes were added to the collection of small cakes available to use as a present for a relative or friend, on their own or as part of a hamper. Both cakes were firstly covered in marzipan and then iced. The 1st design was a very simple small red handmade icing bow added to the top of the cake, and a wider material red ribbon around the base completed the look. The other design was a 3 piece imprint of holly, coloured and then silver balls added to the centre. This design was completed with a green greetings ribbon around the base of the cake.

This was just a 3” square rich fruit cake, which had been covered in marzipan and icing, before the tree decoration was embossed on to the top. The tree was then coloured, and the silver balls added for decoration. A green ribbon was added round the sides of the cake.

This was a rich fruit cake which had been previously covered in marzipan and icing. Whilst the icing was still soft, the candles were embossed and coloured. A ribbon with Merry Christmas was attached around the sides.

This 5” square rich fruit cake was firstly covered with marzipan and white icing, after being placed on a gold coloured board. The top edge of the cake was given a pattern and the holly leaves embossed into the icing whilst it was still soft. The embossed figures were then coloured and the gold balls and edible glitter added to finish the top decoration. A gold coloured ribbon was added around the cake sides.

This 8” rich fruit cake was ordered by my Mum for their Christmas 2010. My daughter suggested the 3-D candle decoration. The main cake was covered with marzipan and iced in white, with the board also being covered. The candle was made using cut-outs of fruit cake which were also covered in marzipan and icing. This candle was placed on a separate 3” round board, and I made a circlet of holly and ivy leaves to surround the candle. I then made the wax ‘drips’ and the flame was made in red/orange/yellow icing. I placed the separate board onto the cake, and added the holly leaves and wording, and finished the cake with the green/gold rope around the cake.

This 6” square cake was based on one of my rich fruit cakes which had been covered in marzipan and then blue icing. I made the ‘starburst’ with white stars on silver wires, and finished the design with a white pearl decoration around the cake. This was very well received at the home of the warden who requests a cake from me, for his residents, every Christmas.

This was the design for my parents Christmas cake for this year. My Mum asked for a cake with a holly & ivy design. The design was based on a 7” square rich fruit cake, which I covered in marzipan and cream icing. I made some sprigs of variegated ivy, which were added to the sides of the cake and sets of 3 holly leaves with berries, for the top. I added the words ‘The Holly and the Ivy....’ per the old Christmas Carol. As usual my parents were thrilled with their cake.
