Novelty Cakes

This was made for a little girl having a birthday party with a theme of ‘clowns’. I finished the cake the day before, but when I looked at it before ‘boxing it up’ I realised ‘Coco’ had no nose! I quickly made it, and my little client was delighted! Again, faces can be adapted for any theme, and their colours of accessories made to any child’s request.

Again, this design was made onto polystyrene ‘dummy’ for my Professional course. It is supposed to represent a fruit picnic. However, I believe the wrong size dummy was used, which makes the fruit look quite insignificant. However, I was able to master the ‘basket weave effect’ and I enjoyed making all of the marzipan fruits. Obviously this design could be adapted to any size or shape of basket. Many years ago, I received a ‘basket of roses’ birthday cake using this method, which would still be fashionable today for a special occasion.

This cake was made for fun for a young man’s birthday. His fiancée wanted to give him a surprise cake and this was it! The idea was taken from a cake I had seen in a book. The cake was sponge, and based on a cake tin for a car which is readily available. I then added my own touches pertinent to this lad, i.e. the number plate with his name on it. I understand it caused a good laugh with him and his mates.
